Ancla Problem

Problems

We have always seen ourselves in that situation (birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, christmas, graduation, or any other special occasion) in which we receive a gift that we don’t need, already have, don’t like, or simply, would have preferred something different; all this because our special person doesn’t know what we like or need, or because we are afraid of ashamed of expressing our wishes.

At the same time, it can be overwhelming and stressful for the gift-giver to find the perfect gift that will make their friend or family member happy.

Key Insights

Based on the results of user surveys and interviews I conducted, which included questions about social life, gift exchange events, and behaviour from the perspectives of both gift givers and recipients, as well as any potential drawbacks encountered, I was able to discover key findings that were relevant to defining the purpose and features of the app Wishop.

Gift List

The gift list gives them more security and confidence when making a gift

Gift Card

They usually use gift cards when they don't know what to give:

✓  Freedom to choose

✗   Limited variety

Wow Factor

They mind losing the wow factor when receiving a gift.

Time & Money

They agree that knowing what the person would like to give would save them time and money when searching for a gift.

Goal

The goal I want to achieve with the Wishop app is to help users get what they really want in a more meaningful way. At the same time, make it easier for their friends to find them the perfect gift by minimizing the uncertainty and anxiety that can come with finding the perfect gift.

Challenge

The challenge for this project was to design an app that was easy to access and intuitive to use for both, the user creating the gift list and completing the task of adding the items they would like to receive, as well as for the user accessing the wish list and choose the perfect gift for their friend.

To facilitate the tasks to be completed and avoid frustrations in the process, this app had to consider a variety of requirements, such as specifications (brand, model, size, color, point of sale...) for multiple types of items, availability notifications, personalization of lists and minimizing the chances of generating an impersonal and insignificant experience, for both the giver and the recipient of the gift.

Solutions

The idea of Wishop was born to help the user express and receive what they really want, no matter how rare, crazy or special, while making it easier to find that perfect detail for the gift-giving user.

The app I designed allows the user to create wishlists in which they can add the items they want to receive as gifts and share that list with those around them (family and friends). At the same time, those users looking to please their friend with the perfect gift, only have to enter the wishlist and in an easy and comfortable way,  choose from the options on the list. The user can also connect those lists to previously created events and link them to their calendar.

Last but not least we also wanted to add value to the app's usefulness by implementing a feature in which the list creator, can choose not to view the items on the list that his friends are choosing for him, with this we achieve the "factor surprise¨ on the user who creates the list, giving them a more meaningful experience.

Design
Solutions

To ensure that I´d achieve my goals by the end of my design process, I came up with several interactions that correspond with each one.

1. Create
Create as many lists and wishes you have.

Surprise Me button you will not know what wishes are going to be fulfilled.

2. Add & Share
Enter your wishes quickly and easily.

Share your gift list to your friends through the way you prefer.

3. Guest
Choose a wish  and make it come true to your friend.

Wireframe
Prototype

After identifying key aspects using various UX tools, I defined the main tasks for both users (the list creator and the gift selector), developed different user flows, tested Lo-Fi prototypes, and finally created the mid-fidelity prototype.

Mid-Fidelity Prototype  / How User create a new wishlist and add an item.

Mid-Fidelity Prototype  / How Guest access the wishlist and pick a gift.
